Professional baseball’s October season is in full swing as the MLB postseason gets under way. The Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Philadelphia Phillies made it through the wildcard rounds to the Divisional Series, but how much money do their players make for winning in the postseason?

In the MLB, players are paid salaries throughout the regular season. However, during the postseason, teams split revenue from ticket sales based on a percentage of games played.

For 2023, this method will be modified once again to increase the participants’ earning potential. The postseason in 2022 consisted of 40 games, with an increase from 2021’s $107m split among the 12 contending clubs.

Since the wildcard stage was expanded in 2022, the prize money for October baseball will be worth $100 million. It featured games-of-three series in place of a one-off shootout in 2022 and included 12 teams for the first time. Following a deal between MLB and the MLB Players Association, players received 60% of eight games.

The Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves, who competed in the World Series last year, received $516,347 and $397,391 respectively as a result of the new adjustments.
