Mike Tyson Attacks Canelo, It’s Terrible For Mexico & Boxing
Mike Tyson, a two-time heavyweight champion, has commented on the current issue surrounding Canelo Alvarez‘s rejection of a high-profile fight with David Benavidez.
Given the large payout of $60 million offered for the fight, Tyson—who is well-versed in Mexican boxing and its competitors—expressed surprise at Canelo’s announcement.
Mike Tyson berates Canelo
Boxing fans are disappointed by Canelo’s unwillingness to face tough opponents, and Tyson‘s comments highlight this unhappiness. He thought back to a period of Mexican boxers who would go into the ring and take on any opponent, no matter how big or small.
“It’s unbelievable to hear that Canelo turned down 60 million dollars to fight Benavidez—a formidable fighter who is youthful, robust, hungry, and proud of his Mexican heritage,” Tyson wrote.
“Is Canelo having problems? Does losing terrify him? He should put on the fight that his fans demand to watch.”
“Are you not mindful of the great Mexican champions who competed against the greatest, no matter how much money was involved?Ahh… Mexico and boxing both suffer from this.”
