Why Is Tyson Fury vs. Jon Jones A Big Deal To Dana White?
Dana White, the president of the UFC, may not be a fan of some dream crossover fights, but there is one he has lately shown a strong interest in.
Just a couple of days after saying that “gimmick fights” are not in the UFC‘s matchmaking playbook, White publicly challenged boxing champion Tyson Fury to accept an invitation to compete in the octagon against UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Although White acknowledged having a wonderful connection with Fury and knowing he could easily defeat Jones in a boxing ring, the UFC president is confident that things will be different in the cage, and for a good reason. The winner has often been the fighter participating on his home turf throughout the limited history of MMA fighters entering the boxing ring, and vice versa.
Floyd Mayweather faced Conor McGregor in the ring, but despite the box office sensation, the outcome was predictable: “Money” defeated “The Notorious” Irishman in the tenth round.
As expected, Randy Couture easily and swiftly brought down boxing champion James Toney to win by submission when Toney entered the octagon to meet the two-division champion.
Therefore, instead of working with the PFL to develop Jones vs. now-former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, is White so intrigued by this hypothetical fight for “the worst man on the planet”?
The battle between White and Fury has the potential to be a huge event, but is White’s interest in it sincere, or is this all a ruse to make fans of the UFC forget about Ngannou?
