Not only do the 49ers not have a first- or second-round pick this year, but they also have no plans to prioritize drafting a quarterback.

They made it to the NFC Championship Game with seventh-round quarterback pick Brock Purdy at the helm, just two years after trading up to get Trey Lance, and they just acquired Sam Darnold as insurance.

But after the draft, San Francisco’s quarterback room may look a little different. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the 49ers have listened to trade offers for Lance.

Teams are aware that Brock Purdy is expected to be the future starter, thus San Francisco has been taking calls, rather than initiating them, Rapoport stated on Twitter.

It’s absolutely possible that San Francisco is considering potential deals. Last year, Purdy showed the poise and confidence of a seasoned veteran as he led his team to a 7-1 record (including the playoffs) with a passer rating of 100 or higher in every game.

Meanwhile, with only four starts to his name, Lance is still mostly unheralded. It makes complete sense for the 49ers to gauge interest in the former third overall selection by listening to offers from other clubs.

However, the 49ers do have three third-round picks and might use one of them to move up if they receive a compelling trade offer on draft day.

If Purdy recovers well from elbow surgery during the summer, this club will be in serious title contention. San Francisco might benefit greatly from the addition of a promising rookie.

The 49ers may let Purdy and Lance compete for the starting job in training camp if they don’t receive a compelling offer.

There’s no harm in picking up the phone and hearing what San Francisco has to say, and there’s no reason to think they’re trying to unload Lance.
