After a successful season with the New York Giants, Dexter Lawrence is receiving compensation.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the nose tackle has agreed to a four-year, $90 million deal extension with $60 million guaranteed, making him one of the highest-paid interior defensive linemen in the NFL.
On Twitter, Lawrence essentially confirmed the agreement.
According to OverTheCap, Lawrence was approaching the end of his rookie contract’s fifth-year option and owed $12.4 million in wages before becoming eligible for free agency the following season. Because of the contract predicament, he chose not to participate in the Giants’ voluntary offseason program last month.

With an average yearly value of $22.5 million, Lawrence will tie with Daron Payne of the Washington Commanders for third place among DTs, only behind Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams ($31.7 million) and Jeffery Simmons of the Tennessee Titans ($23.5 million). All of the agreements were concluded within the previous calendar year.
Lawrence got the contract after a season that saw him named to the Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro. The 342-pound Lawrence, who was selected with the 17th overall choice of the 2019 NFL Draft, was a force in the middle for the 9-7-1 Giants, recording 68 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, and two fumbles that he forced.

The Giants have completed one of their final tasks for the offseason with the extension of Lawrence, but they still have a big task ahead of them with Saquon Barkley, who is franchise-tagged.
