Saquon Barkley Advised Thinking About Skipping The Season In Pursuit Of A Lengthy Deal
Star analyzes his potential absence in 2023 as a “card” to play in talks while being a target of the New York Giants franchise tag….
To decide on his future with the New York Giants, star Saquon Barkley is considering skipping the 2023 season. In a news conference held for the media, the running back claimed that missing the 2018 season “is a card” that he may play in contract talks.
“I think this is a valid conversation.”
“It’s a card I can use.”
“But it should only come into the equation if we don’t settle anything by July 17.”

The racer announced on Monday that he would skip this week’s required New York minicamps.
“I’m not demanding a record contract or to be the highest-paid player at my position. I understand the market. My goal is to be respectfully compensated for my contributions to the team.”
Saquon Barkley said via an official statement.
This summer, Barkley was considered a candidate for the franchise tag, which would require him to sign a deal for $10 million valid just through 2023 and based on the highest pay in the NFL for the position. The player wants a long-term contract with the team instead of accepting the tag. Thus, he is not contemplating doing so. July 17 is the cutoff date.
Barkley is a top RB in the league and was the second overall choice in the 2018 Draft. He has so far played 60 games in five seasons with the Giants despite a persistent injury issue. He still has 954 rushes for 954 yards and 29 touchdowns, as well as 247 catches for 1,820 yards and 8 more.
