Michael Malone, the head coach of the newly crowned NBA champion Denver Nuggets, has criticized media outlets for always featuring the league’s most media-friendly club, the Los Angeles Lakers, even if they don’t deserve it after defeating the Miami Heat to claim the title.

Against the Lakers, Michael Malone fights hard and trolled James
When Malone stated in an interview during the Finals series that he was thinking about retiring, he appeared to be talking to James himself.
The reason for this is that when the purple and gold squad was swept by the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals after they advanced from the play-in round and defeated the Memphis Grizzlies and the reigning champion Golden State Warriors, it was LeBron James who first raised the possibility of retirement.
Coach Malone spoke during the Pat McCafee program and said,
“The reality is if they [news outlets] don’t [cover the Nuggets as NBA champions], we don’t give a s**t. We believe in each other, and we know what we are doing every single day on this journey. To celebrate with the people you love and care about, that’s what we all work so hard for.”
And then adding ironically,
“Speaking of the Lakers, I just want you guys to knowāthis is breaking news. I’m thinking about retiring, so don’t tell anybody.”
In retaliation, LeBron shared a story on Instagram with a photo of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, a teammate he had a conflict with during the 2020 Lakers championship series. LeBron has received some harsh criticism for his play, and KCP has occasionally clashed with both Anthony Davis and him during the series.

James also shared a picture on Instagram with a critical caption that may have been intended for all of his Denver detractors.

While Lakers supporters find the champions’ remarks difficult to hear, the message may backfire since it appears they are rubbing LeBron the wrong way, making him rethink his decision to retire to plan for a “last dance.”
LeBron has a current deal for the upcoming season and an option to continue playing in the 2024ā25 season, so the Lakers are not concerned about the contractual situation because he already has a strong incentive to compete.
