After Mike Trout departed Monday’s game early with a left wrist injury, the Los Angeles Angels may have to cope with a challenging injury scenario over the coming weeks.
In the eighth inning of a game against the San Diego Padres, Trout fouled off a Nick Martinez 0-1 pitch and shook his left arm after that. The initial source of the worry was there.
The urgent concern of one of his essential players was brought to the attention of Angels manager Phil Nevin, but things need to appear promising.
“I just took a swing, and something felt uncomfortable. I’m just waiting to get some scans and hoping for the best. It doesn’t feel great. I mean, there are no two ways about it. Hopefully, it’s just a sprained wrist. I can’t describe the pain I felt. I never felt it before, ever, before this. I never had wrist problems or anything. Just freak things.”
Trout said after the Angels lost 10-3.
One of the top players in Major League Baseball, Mike Trout, was chosen for his 11th All-Star squad on Sunday and his 10th consecutive as a starter.
Tests are performed on Mike Trout
When the injury happened, Trout momentarily returned to the batter’s box, but he quickly retreated, and it became apparent that he couldn’t continue. Against the Padres, the Angels ultimately fell short, 10-3.
The hitter is awaiting his recent test results, including x-rays on his wrist.
“We’ve talked about our depth, and it’s been tested. We’ve been adding to that. We’ve lost some big pieces to this. We’ve talked about having the next guy come up. Same thing in this case. It’ll allow somebody to get more looks and at-bats, depending on the outcome of Mike’s tests. So we’ll see how it goes.”
