Seattle Mariners Never Won the MLB World Series
The World Series, the ultimate reward in Major League Baseball, has been played since 1903. Every MLB team’s relentless ambition is to win the World Series and take the most fabulous prize for their country.
Baseball players and management put in a lifetime’s effort to reach the postseason and, ideally, claim the championship. Still, at making that ambition veracity some teams are much more effective than others.
The World Series is always a meaningful accomplishment for all those intricate, regardless of who wins it. The New York Yankees has won 27 championships, the Cardinals with 11, the Oakland Athletics with 9, and the Boston Red Sox with 9.
But contrary to this, some clubs have never captured a World Series championship. In this article, I am elaborating on one of those teams, the Seattle Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners have never claimed the World Series since they entered Major League Baseball in 1977. It is the only MLB team that has never participated in the World Series is this one.
It took the Mariners 14 years after entering the American League to have a winning season. Seattle set the American League record for most victories in 2001 by winning 116 games. They won the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians that year but fell to the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. Since then, the Mariners have yet to earn a postseason spot.
Reaching the American League Championship game three times, the Mariners had some feats in the 1990s and the first part of the 2000s, but they all ended in defeat. By winning the regular-season series 90-72 and ending a 20-year postseason hiatus, the Mariners 2022 broke the record for the longest playoff drought in North America.
The Mariners hit a shallow point in 2008 when they became the first club with a payroll of $100 million or more to lose 100 games in a season. After this disaster, new players and general managers were hired, and the Mariners started their recovery in 2009.
The Mariners will be looking to host more playoff games in T-Mobile Park, one of the best Major League Baseball stadiums. Due to the franchise’s ability to compete with blockbuster transactions and support a substantial salary to try to break their World Series drought, Seattle is also a significant market.
Seattle secured a Wild Card position in 2022, allowing them to enter the postseason. The Mariners, although the underdog, defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card Series to go to the American League Division Series, where they were ultimately defeated by the Houston Astros.
