A Quarterback Not a Lock For the Houston Texans at No 2

With the second overall pick, the Houston Texans may draft the quarterback not selected by the Carolina Panthers.

The consensus, though, is that the Texans will use their second pick on a defensive player like Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr.

According to ESPN’s Matt Miller, “I couldn’t searched one person who truly believes the Texans would select a QB there in texts and calls with scouts, coaches, and even agents throughout the past week.”

Here’s where I have to let the idea in that the Panthers prefer Stroud behind Houston’s back and are the ones leaking testing info to get Houston to trade up to No. 1 for Young sneak in.

But if Carolina keeps the first selection, I think Young will be taken, and the Texans might not take a quarterback with the second.

DeMeco Ryans, the Texans’ new head coach, came from a defensive coaching background, and the team’s defense ranked 30th in yards allowed.

In addition, the Houston Texans have the number 12 overall selection, which they received from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Deshaun Watson.

Ryans and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik are transplants from the San Francisco 49ers, who rode a rookie quarterback selected in the seventh round all the way to the NFC championship game.

It’s possible that the Texans believe they can turn Richardson or Kentucky’s Will Levis into a competent starter if they choose them at No. 12 or move up from that place in the draft.

The Texans will definitely use the second overall pick on a quarterback if they really like him. If not, they have every right to change course.

Hendon Hooker is a QB3 for “Plenty of Teams”; Trade him.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans play American football professionally. NRG Stadium is home to the Texans while they are playing in the NFL. They are a part of the American Football Conference (AFC) South.

The Texans were created in 1999, and Bob McNair controlled the team until his death in 2018; after his passing, Janice McNair became the team’s main owner.

Houston’s former National Football League club, the Oilers (1960-1996; see below), relocated to Nashville and became the Titans.

The Texans are the NFL’s youngest active franchise, having entered the league as an expansion team in 2002.
