Tony Mitchell, a defensive back for Alabama, is said to have sped beyond the speed limit in a Dodge Challenger before being apprehended on March 15 in Holmes County, Florida.

According to the police report written by the Holmes County sheriff’s deputy Mike Rodak of AL.com received by requesting public records.

The report stated, among other things, “The vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed as I activated my head/tail lights and executed a U-turn in an endeavor to initiate a traffic stop.”

He also added that after turning on my emergency lights and siren, I called dispatch to let them know I was pursuing a Dodge Challenger. The speed of the car increased to almost 141 mph. I no longer saw the vehicle on Highway 79, not far from Sam’s Pub.

Police ended the pursuit at 10:35 p.m. ET, but they discovered the automobile again seven minutes later. A short while later, a traffic stop led to the arrest.

According to a statement posted on Facebook by the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, the following happened during the traffic stop:

“During the stop, deputies detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. When asked if there was marijuana in the vehicle, Mitchell produced a baggie of marijuana from the passenger floorboard. Both Mitchell and Lewis were taken into custody. A search of the vehicle produced an additional significant amount of marijuana, a set of scales, a loaded handgun between the passenger seat and center console, and a large amount of cash.”

Mitchell was accused of possessing marijuana with the intent to deliver or sell it, according to Rodak.

In addition to the original offence, Christopher Lewis, the car’s passenger, was accused of carrying a concealed weapon without a license.

According to the police report, there discovered 226 games of marijuana and almost $7,000 in cash in the automobile.

Nick Saban, the head coach of Alabama, announced to the media that Mitchell had been put on indefinite leave.

After the team’s opening spring practice, Saban noted that everyone can make decisions.

Being in the wrong place at a bad moment is an impossible situation. There is a cause-and-effect relationship when you take actions that land you in undesirable circumstances.
