The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed The Athletics’ claim that Collins sadly lost his life in a motorbike accident on Sunday night in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.

Initial research indicates that an adult female, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, was operating an SUV. Riding a motorbike, Collins crashed into the SUV’s back passenger side as she made a left turn and moved across the lanes.

Collins was officially pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, according to the authorities. According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, the SUV’s driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the current investigation.

Former teams of Alex Collins lament his passing.

The Ravens said, “We deeply regret the loss of Alex Collins. Alex was always someone who brightened up the room with his infectious smile. He was sincerely warm-hearted and brought a unique zeal and energy wherever he went. We hope memories of the positivity and affection he spread to many will be his lasting legacy.”

The Seahawks, another team that had the honor of having Collins on their roster, expressed their feelings in the following way:

“Devastated by the news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Collins family at this time.”

During his time in Fayetteville, Collins scored 3,703 yards and 36 touchdowns, showcasing his prowess by producing three consecutive seasons of 1,000 yards or more.

Collins, a native of Fort Lauderdale who the Seahawks selected in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, began his professional career there. His best season, where he racked up 1,160 scrimmage yards and six touchdowns, came with Baltimore in 2017.

He returned to Seattle after two years with the Ravens. Collins played with the Memphis Showboats in the USFL this past spring, and his final NFL game was in 2021.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said, “Alex radiated positivity and had a light that was undeniable. Not only was he a wonderful teammate, but he also played with incredible resolve and intelligence. His dynamic presence contributed significantly to our achievements when he was with us in Baltimore. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family during this difficult time, and we pray for his peaceful rest.”
