Anthony Richardson, the Colts’ Rookie Quarterback, Why He Misses Practice?

Anthony Richardson, the Colts’ rookie quarterback, is still in concussion protocol and has missed practice. Sunday, Anthony Richardson may have been on his way to a historic day.

Richardson became the first player in Indianapolis Colts history to score two touchdowns in the first quarter. He had 56 passing yards, 35 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns in one quarter against the Houston Texans, and while prorating stats like that for four quarters can be tricky, things were looking well for the Colts rookie.

Then Richardson left the game with a concussion, which is causing concern. On Wednesday, Richardson was still in the concussion protocol and unable to practise. That’s not a good sign for his availability for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, but he has a few days to be cleared and start.

Even if Richardson is cleared and plays on Sunday, the fact that he has played in two NFL games and had to exit both due to injury raises concerns.

Richardson was injured late in the Colts’ season opener and left the game. That wasn’t serious, but seeing him suffer a concussion at the conclusion of a touchdown run after hitting the back of his head on the turf is a little more concerning.

The Colts have bet a lot on Richardson, choosing him fifth overall and asking him to be the franchise’s next face. Injuries can derail plans, as they saw with Andrew Luck and his all-too-brief career.

“You’re always concerned,” Colts owner Jim Irsay told ESPN.com’s Stephen Holder on Sunday. “He banged up his knee in the first game, but it was fine, just a contusion.”

This game is a head banger. I believe it’s just something he needs to defend himself against. He’s a large, strong man. Obviously, he can run the football, and players at that position do a lot of running these days. As a result, I believe self-defense is an issue.”

Richardson’s NFL career is off to a great start. He was drafted high due to his tremendous physical abilities coming out of Florida, and they’ve all been on display over the last two weeks. He appears to have a promising future. Now all Richardson has to do is stay healthy.

Early years of Life

Richardson was born in Miami, Florida on May 22, 2002.He went on to Eastside High School in Gainesville, Florida, where he was a quarterback for the football team. He recorded 4,633 passing yards and 37 passing touchdowns in high school, as well as 1,633 running yards and 41 touchdowns. He has made a commitment to play college football at the University of Florida.

Player’s College life

Richardson played in four games his freshman year at Florida, completing one of two throws for 27 yards with a score and an interception. He redshirted his first year of collegiate eligibility. Emory Jones’ backup in 2021 was Richardson. 

He took over for Jones against LSU and completed 10 of 19 passes for 167 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions, and a rushing touchdown.

On September 3, 2022, Richardson helped lead a 29-26 upset against the seventh-ranked Utah Utes. Richardson passed for 453 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a 38-33 loss to Tennessee on September 24.

He also rushed for 62 yards and two scores on 17 carries. Following the conclusion of the 2022 season, Richardson revealed his intention to enter the 2023 NFL Draft.
