Aqib Talib ‘s Brother Agreed To Plead Guilty
In connection with the murder of Michael Hickmon, 43, two days prior, Talib, 40, turned himself into authorities on August 15, 2022. Soon after, Talib was charged with murder. After an argument between the two, Talib is accused of shooting Hickmon at a youth football game in Lancaster, Texas. Later, there was a video of the occurrence.
According to the prosecution, the older brother of former NFL cornerback Aqib Talib, Yaqub Salik Talib, allegedly entered a guilty plea on Thursday in the shooting death of a youth football coach.
In connection with the murder of Michael Hickmon, 43, two days prior, Talib, 40, turned himself into authorities on August 15, 2022. Soon after, Talib was charged with murder. After an argument between the two, Talib is accused of shooting Hickmon at a youth football game in Lancaster, Texas. Later, there was a video of the occurrence.
According to the Dallas County district attorney’s office, he may spend 37 years in jail. On August 7, official sentencing and victim impact statements are scheduled.
The Dallas Morning News and the Associated Press contacted Talib’s attorney for comment, but he did not answer. The Talib brothers were league coaches while their kids competed in the league. Hickmon’s family has filed a $1 million lawsuit against both Talibs for their involvement in his passing. On January 9, 2024, the trial is scheduled to start.
The complaint claims that Aqib Talib, 37, began the altercation that resulted in Hickmon’s murder when he and his brother abruptly ended the game following a taunting penalty assessed to the Bobcats, the club Talib finances.
Before his brother Yaqub shot Hickmon five times, he reportedly started a physical altercation with Hickmon on the sidelines. Hickmon was transported to Methodist Central Hospital in Dallas, where he succumbed to his wounds and passed away.
The Big XII Sports League and Family Services were also cited as defendants for failing to adequately screen coaches and provide their members with a safe and secure environment.
For 12 seasons, Aqib Talib played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Rams in the NFL. He was named to two All-Pro teams, five Pro Bowls, and the Broncos Super Bowl victory.
In 2020, Talib began working for Fox as a game commentator before being signed by Amazon in June for the following season of the streaming service’s “Thursday Night Football” coverage. After the shooting before the season began, Talib resigned from that position.
