Baker Mayfield Suing His Father’s Company for Vanished $12 mln
Baker Mayfield Suing His Father’s Company for Vanished $12 mln.
It would appear like Baker Mayfield is fighting on two fronts this summer. According to KXAN in Austin, not only is the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at odds with Kyle Trask for the starting job, but he is also at odds with members of his own family over lost money.
Two of the firms named in the lawsuit, Camwood Capital Management Group LLC and Camwood Ventures LP, were started by Mayfield’s father, James Mayfield.
On Tuesday, Mayfield and his wife Emily filed a petition in an Austin, Texas, court to begin taking depositions in the case.
Mayfield and his wife have spent somewhere around $12 million in these businesses, and they want to see the financial records from 2018 through 2023 to see what happened to their money.
The petition claims the Mayfields have no idea “if their money has been properly and competently invested, has been stolen or otherwise misappropriated, or something in between.”
The petition is not a lawsuit, although legal action may be taken against the firms in the future if their requests are not met.
According to a 2019 report from The Athletic, the corporation at the centre of the possible case, Camwood Capital, has managed Mayfield’s brand and funds since he was an Oklahoma student.
Keeping the money we earn safe is our first priority. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a saver,” Mayfield remarked in the story. To me, the key to keeping your wealth secure is to only associate with trustworthy individuals.
Mayfield is requesting financial information dating back to the year he was drafted (2018, when he was the first overall pick by the Cleveland Browns).
Before Mayfield’s rookie season, he agreed to a four-year, $32 million contract with the Browns. After a disappointing 2021 season due to a shoulder injury, the Carolina Panthers acquired Mayfield in a trade the following year.
He was cut after appearing in seven games for the Panthers. After that, Mayfield joined the Los Angeles Rams, where he got four late-season starts.
After reaching free agency, Mayfield decided to join the Buccaneers. He’s competing with Trask, Tom Brady’s backup from the past two years. The end of that competition is in sight.
Baker Reagan Mayfield – Who is He
Baker Reagan Mayfield (born April 14, 1995) is a National Football League (NFL) quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Following his time at Texas Tech, Mayfield went on to play collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, where he won the Heisman Trophy as a senior and became the first walk-on player to do so. The Cleveland Browns selected him first overall in the 2018 NFL Draught.
Mayfield established the NFL rookie quarterback record for throwing touchdowns in his first season, as well as snapping the Browns’ 19-game losing run.
His best season came in 2020, when he guided the Browns to their first playoff appearance since 2002 and their first playoff victory since 1994.
Mayfield was moved to the Carolina Panthers in 2022 as a result of his uneven play and disagreements with Browns management.
He was released by the Panthers near the end of the season after further poor play and injuries, and he finished the year with the Los Angeles Rams. Mayfield signed with the Buccaneers prior to the 2023 season.
