In Her Comeback Match at The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Iga Świątek Beat Zheng Qinwen
Iga Świątek, the current world No. 1, triumphed after successfully returning against China’s Zheng Qinwen in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany.
After suffering a rib injury in Indian Wells, California, the Polish star missed more than a month of the tour. On Thursday, he required less than an hour and a half to defeat Zheng.
During the match, Świątek, defending her title in Stuttgart in advance of the French Open next month, broke Zheng’s serve four times.
After cruising through the first set, she faced some challenges in the second but earned a critical break to go up 5-4 before holding serve to seal the win.
“I’m pretty happy that I’m not rusty and I could perform good tennis, even though I had a break.”

In the quarterfinals, she will play Karolna Plíšková of the Czech Republic. On Thursday, Plíšková defeated Donna Vekić of Croatia 6-2, 6-7, 7-6.
When the French Open begins in Paris on May 28, Świątek will aim to capture her third French Open championship and fourth grand slam overall.
She had to pull out of the Billie Jean King Cup and Miami Open qualifiers recently, but she said before the Stuttgart match that she is finally injury-free.
“I felt like I needed to be 100% focused from the beginning to the end … I’m just really happy that I can play here again and enjoy the whole atmosphere.”
