Breanna Stewart of the Liberty has been chosen as the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for matches played from Friday, May 19, through Sunday, May 28. The WNBA season has officially begun.
Stewart helped New York open the season 2-1 in the three games played during that period, averaging 26 points, 10 rebounds, 3.7 assists, three steals, and 53.2 percent shooting from the field (45 percent from three).
After playing for the Seattle Storm for six seasons, Stewart joined the Liberty in the offseason and made her Barclays Centre debut on May 21. She scored a career-high 45 points, the most points ever scored in a single game by a Liberty player and the most points ever scored by any player in the WNBA in under 31 minutes.
The top overall choice in the 2016 WNBA draft followed it up on May 27 against the Connecticut Sun with a game-high 21 points. She set franchise records with her 78 total points in three games to open the season and her 66 points in a two-game stretch.
