It’s reasonable to ask how high Robinson will be picked, though, given that running backs are rarely the offensive focal point in today’s NFL.

The Bleacher Report Scouting Department ranks Texas’ Bijan Robinson as the fourth-best overall prospect and the top running back in this very year’s draft class.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid claims that there is a negligible probability that Robinson will be selected in the first-round’s bottom third.

“There is no way that Robinson, a consensus top-five prospect who plays a devalued position, makes it outside of the top 20,” Reid wrote, citing the opinions of many scouts.

Robinson’s athleticism and potential make him a lock for a top-20 pick in this year’s draft. It’s tough to imagine any running back in this draft class falling outside the top 20.

According to the B/R Scouting Department, 14 of the top 150 prospects are running backs, making this a strong recruiting class.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only team with a top-20 pick that does not have a proven option at quarterback. Tampa has additional requirements after losing Tom Brady, Donovan Smith, Sean Murphy-Bunting, and Cameron Brate this summer.

When depth is scarce at positions like wide receiver, offensive tackle, and defensive tackle, why would a team want to draft first there? Some teams will refuse to do so because of the relatively low worth of running backs.

One high-ranking official reportedly commented, “He’s special but not worth the investment.” Take a look at how many clubs have re-signed running backs. It’s not pretty, and many people never get to witness how things turn out.

There might not be as many top-20 teams considering that strategy if there is an early rush on quarterbacks.

Would the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, or Arizona Cardinals (after a draft day deal) be willing to turn Robinson loose early?

Yes, it is possible that he falls to the 22nd-ranked Baltimore Ravens, 26th-ranked Dallas Cowboys, 27th-ranked Buffalo Bills, or 28th-ranked Cincinnati Bengals. The 49ers are reportedly fielding buyout offers for Trey Lance.
