Broncos Terminated Catastrophic Signing Of Randy Gregory
The Denver Broncos committed other significant errors throughout the summer outside of the Russell Wilson deal.
Wilson is at least returning part of their money to them. The Broncos and Randy Gregory agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract last summer. He appeared in 10 games throughout two seasons, recorded three sacks, and will reportedly be released.
Gregory received a guaranteed $14 million on his 2023 basic salary last year, and he will receive a further $14 million this year, according to Spotrac. For virtually little influence at all, that amounts to $28 million. The incident between Gregory and Los Angeles Rams guard Oday Aboushi’s brawl during a Broncos defeat last season garnered the most media attention.
When Gregory became a free agent last year, the Dallas Cowboys believed they had renewed him. However, Gregory pulled out of a contract because of the wording the Cowboys intended to include in the contract, and Gregory ended up signing with Denver. It appeared as though Dallas had good fortune.
Gregory will get interest as a free agent despite his last two seasons and departure from the Broncos. With the Cowboys, he was a reliable pass defender. Even though Gregory will turn 31 in November, a club in need of pass rush assistance will sign him, probably temporarily.
The Broncos have recently made yet another error, and they are swiftly slipping into the NFL’s bottom half of clubs. They’ll continue to use their more potent, younger pass rushers. Though he will be mentioned as one of the worst acquisitions in team history, there won’t be any fond recollections of Gregory’s time there.
