Can American League Going To Extend Its Powerful Streak at All-Star Game?
The National League has performed poorly in recent MLB All-Star Games, with just a three-game winning streak between 2010 and 2012 being an exception.
Since 1997, the AL has won the All-Star Game 21 times in a row. The last nine were also perfect. The AL’s dominance has persisted for 25 years, which is hard to fathom.
BetMGM’s odds for Tuesday night’s All-Star Game are -110 for both the American League and National League, despite the AL’s 25-year All-Star Game dominance.
This could be the year that the NL finally figures things out. The MVP voting demonstrates that the NL features a strong crop of all-stars.
Not only is Shohei Ohtani having a historic season, but he also has no competition for the AL MVP award. While Ronald Acuna Jr. is the heavy favourite in the National League, other candidates including Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Juan Soto, and Corbin Carroll also have strong arguments.
It’s usually really difficult to dissect an all-star game. While the game does bring out some competitive spirit, neither team is taking it too seriously. That makes the outcome more uncertain.
The American League is the pick ’em to make if you’re a fan of patterns. Since the 1990s, they’ve been a safe investment option.
First look at Tuesday’s sports betting schedule:
Toss-ups for the All-Star Game
Since this week is baseball’s all-star week, there won’t be much action until next week. And if you think picking the winning All-Star Game team is tough, try looking into the props.
BetMGM does not offer a wide variety of game-related props. Starter outcomes (walk/hit by pitch, strikeout, single, extra base hit, or other) and individual pitcher outcomes (e.g., Gerrit Cole or Zac Gallen strike out the side in the first inning, +800) are both up for grabs.
BetMGM has removed the usual home run hitter props because it is doubtful that all the starters would play the entire game.
When put in context, it’s not quite the same as wagering on the Super Bowl.
WNBA exists
There are a few WNBA games to wager on if you’re looking for an alternative to baseball, Wimbledon, or soccer.
Las Vegas is a 17.5-point favourite over the Phoenix Mercury, and the Washington Mystics are 6.5-point favourites over the Seattle Storm. The Aces have the best record in the league at 17-2.
Which option has the most chance of success?
Perhaps it’s because I don’t give much credence to fads that defy common sense, but I’ll be rooting for the National League in the All-Star Game. I don’t mind playing in a league where the hot Atlanta Braves are a part of things.
