Chicago Cubs Enlarged Their Roster By Calling Up Prospects Shane Greene & Alexander Canario
At the 2021 trade deadline, the San Francisco Giants traded Canario, 23, for Kris Bryant.
The Chicago Cubs summoned right-hander Shane Greene and outfielder Alexander Canario from Triple-A Iowa before Friday’s doubleheader against the Reds.
Canario had a scorching month of August, with a slash line of 305/.356/.632 in 23 games while hitting seven home runs and ten doubles. He underwent surgery to treat a fractured left foot and a separated left shoulder after suffering a terrible, unexpected injury while playing winter ball and returned in June.
At the 2021 trade deadline, the San Francisco Giants traded Canario, 23, for Kris Bryant. Baseball America and MLB.com list him as the Chicago Cubs ‘ No. 14 prospect.
Two 40-man roster spots were available, and Greene chose one of them. Greene, 34, participated in two major league games in 2022 with the Dodgers and Yankees.
With Iowa, Greene had five starts and recorded a 2.16 ERA while walking nine times and striking out 20 times in 16 2/3 innings.
