DeVante Parker’s New Contract With Patriots, Inclusive Salary & Incentives Can be Known to U, If U Read This Story …
The late-last-month report that Patriots wide receiver DeVante Parker had signed a three-year, $33 million contract extension caught many fans off guard.
Cost of extending Parker’s asking price was high following an adequate but ultimately disappointing first season in New England.
Parker played in 13 games and had 31 receptions for 539 yards and three touchdowns. In four of the past six seasons, he has missed three or more games due to injury.
Can you justify spending $33 million on that?
Well, you should read the fine print, as with every NFL contract.
On Thursday, ESPN’s Field Yates revealed all of the contract specifics, including salary and incentives. If Parker doesn’t play in all 17 games in each of these seasons, he’s not likely to meet all of the incentives and prizes.
It was reported earlier this week by FOX Sports’ Henry McKenna that only $14 million of the $33 million is guaranteed.
The Patriots aren’t committing much guaranteed money to Parker, so he’ll need to remain healthy and play well to earn the entire $33 million.
Given their need for a game-changing wide receiver, that maybe wouldn’t be the worst thing that could happen to the Patriots.
The Patriots may now free up $2.6 million in salary cap space in 2023, which is great news as they continue to pursue a deal with free agency wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
