Dillon Brooks Memorable Debut With Rockets, Received $25K Fine
In the opening game of the 2023 preseason, Houston Rockets player Dillon Brooks was dismissed.
But not for the causes that he had anticipated, Dillon Brooks saw himself in the limelight during the preseason game between the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers.
Brooks was removed from the game and given a severe two-penalty following a violent altercation with Pacers center/forward Daniel Theis only four minutes and 33 seconds into his Rockets debut.
Brooks was removed from the game early after the incident, in which he made contact with Theis in the groin area, and the officials felt it to be excessive.
Dillon Brooks’ heavy fine
Dillon Brooks will get a $25,000 punishment from the NBA, which promptly responded to the situation.
The league said in a news statement that Brooks was punished for “recklessly initiating action” with Daniel Theis on October 10 during the preseason game, which led to his expulsion.
The Rockets ended up winning 122-103. The Rockets had considerable expectations for Brooks in the next season, but an early expulsion makes for a less-than-ideal debut for him in a Rockets outfit.
Brooks keeps receiving negative media coverage
The incident took place on Tuesday and is a major plus for Houston Rockets supporters who are upset with their club for shelling out $86 million to the Grizzlies for the controversial player.
As soon as he was sent out, Brooks embraced his role as a villain and said, “What’s my name? After the game, I told reporters, “My name is Dillon the Villain, so I suppose [I do have an eye on my back].”
The Rockets and Brooks will turn their attention to their performance on the court as the NBA regular season draws near, where they want to advance once more to the postseason in the challenging Western Conference.
