Donovan Smith Sign One-Year Contract With The Chiefs
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, offensive lineman Donovan Smith and the Chiefs have agreed on a one-year contract. The contract may be worth $9 million.
Orlando Brown Jr. left for the Bengals in free agency. Thus, Smith will likely take his place at left tackle for the Chiefs. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor was acquired via free agency, and Andy Reid, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, claimed Taylor might “transfer over to the left side.” Taylor, meanwhile, has only 154 left tackle plays of experience between his time in college and the NFL.
The Buccaneers dismissed Smith as a cost-cutting measure in March, and he has since been an unsigned free agent.
The Bucs selected Smith in the second round of the 2015 draft, and he started 124 regular-season games.
After hyperextending an elbow in the first game of the season in 2022, he had trouble. According to ESPN, Smith had a pass rush success rate of 78.3 percent, a run block success rate of 64.9 percent, and was second in the league with 12 accepted penalties for 100 yards. Smith also missed four games due to an injury.
