Dusty Baker Allegedly Announced Retirement After Astros’ ALCS Loss To Rangers
The Athletic claims that Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker is prepared to step down following the team’s defeat to the Texas Rangers in Game 7 of the ALCS on Monday at Minute Maid Park.
The 74-year-old Baker was aware that the 2023 MLB season would be his final one, but he did not want the publicity that would come with a farewell tour.
After resigning as the Astros manager, a post he has held since 2020, the native of Riverside, California, allegedly intends to continue playing in the major leagues in some manner.
He ranks sixth among all-time players with 2,183 regular-season victories.
Dusty Baker walks away with pride.
Last year, the Astros’ World Series victory against the Philadelphia Phillies earned Dusty Baker his first championship as a manager.
Before the 2023 season, he never gave retirement a thought. He also reportedly intended to keep his plans a secret if he changed his mind.
While serving as manager of the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, and Astros, Baker was able to lead five different teams to the postseason.
The winner of the National League Championship Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks will play the Rangers in the World Series after their 11-4 victory over Houston.
