Grizzlies’ Player Ja Morant Suspended after Displaying a Pistol in An Instagram Live Video Again
Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies has been banned once more. The 23-year-old was caught on camera Saturday waving what seemed to be a rifle from the driver’s seat of a slowly moving car in an Instagram Live video.
“We are aware of the social media video involving Ja Morant.” “He is suspended from all activities pending league review. We have no further comment at this time.”
The Grizzlies’ statement on Sunday morning
Morant was benched in March for eight games without pay for a similar offence. After losing to the Denver Nuggets, he went live on Instagram inside a Colorado nightclub and brandished what was subsequently determined to be someone else’s pistol.
The Grizzlies announced he would miss at least two games in less than 24 hours.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass says the league is “gathering more information.” Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN
According to reports, yesterday’s IG Live showed Grizzlies player Ja Morant clutching a revolver.
After looking into the situation, the NBA concluded that Morant did not have the pistol when the team was travelling. He was not put under arrest by the authorities.
Morant met with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to talk about his actions at the time, which the NBA believed to be “detrimental to the league” in a statement.
In an interview with the media before his return to the court, Morant discussed the counselling he had while away from the squad in Florida and that he needed to be “more responsible.”
“I don’t have an alcohol problem. I’ve never had an alcohol problem.” “I went there for counselling. To learn how to manage stress and positively cope with stress. Instead of, you know, ways I’ve tried to deal with it before that caused me to make mistakes.”
Ja Morant
Following reports that Morant had abused a youngster and threatened him with a pistol during a pickup game at his residence last summer, the Washington Post published an article just before the Colorado outing. In a different instance, he was also charged with threatening the mall security chief in Memphis.
The Post released a chronology of purported occurrences from the summer of 2022 in April. The article detailed how Memphis police allegedly handled three reports about Morant and his family improperly by misrepresenting or omitting to identify potential suspects and witnesses at the site of separate incidents.
In addition, Morant filed a countersuit against the adolescent for defamation, violence, and assault as the team prepared for its first-round playoff matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Morant’s legal team argued in the document that the teen’s charges permanently damaged his prospects of being named to the All-NBA squad.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that he had yet to be chosen for the group.
While shooting 46.6% from the field and 30.7% from 3-point range last season, Morant averaged 26.2 points, 8.1 assists, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.1 steals. The Lakers eliminated the Grizzlies from the playoffs in the first round in six games.
