On Sunday, Brian Harman won the British Open by a commanding six-shot margin.
Brian Harman got it off despite the rain at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Harman cruised to victory at the British Open on Sunday, his maiden major championship victory. On Friday at Hoylake, England, the 36-year-old took a five-shot lead. He fired a 1-under 70 on Sunday, bringing him to 13-under for the week and solidifying his six-shot victory.

Sepp Straka, Tom Kim, Jon Rahm, and Jason Day tied for second place at 7-under par for the week. Kim battled a sprained ankle for the final 54 holes of the event after slipping and falling on damp grass on Thursday night.

Rahm’s 63 on Saturday set a course record by two shots, catapulting him into contention. Rory McIlroy and Emiliano Grillo both finished at 6-under.

This week’s British Open featured a record $16.5 million reward, yet it was the smallest of the major championships.

In comparison, the U.S. Open paid $20 million last month, and The Players Championship paid $25 million in March, the richest purse on Tour this season. Several more tournaments are also worth $20 million.

Harman, who has three PGA Tour victories, enters this week with roughly $29 million in career earnings. His Sunday victory netted him a $3 million payout.
