Injured Tiger Calls It a Day @ 2023 Masters Tournament – The Cloud Mourning Too
It was a full stop for a hero. Tiger Wood, the ‘king’ called it a day at the 2023 Masters Tournament.
On Sunday morning, before play resumed after a rain-soaked Saturday, the 15-time major champion announced his withdrawal.
Woods had completed only seven holes in his third round and would have been required to play 29 holes on Sunday to finish the event.
During the early stages of Saturday’s play, Woods was limping heavily and in obvious pain. He was last among the 54 players who made the cut, having played his first seven holes six over par.
Since his life-threatening car crash in 2021, Woods has been dealing with severe leg pain.
Although he has managed to rehabilitate his injuries and return to the course, it is evident that he is currently unable to play high-level golf for four consecutive rounds.
Woods has withdrawn or been cut from three of the four majors he has played since his return from injury.
This is the first time he has withdrawn from the Masters and only the second time he has failed to play the weekend in golf’s biggest event.
On a positive note, Woods was able to match the all-time record with 23 straight Masters cuts made this week.
However, the mounting injuries, which have plagued him even before the car crash, have led Woods to contemplate retirement.
He stated, “I don’t know how many more I have in me,” when he spoke with reporters earlier in the week.
Tiger Woods spoke to media.
Woods looked defeated on the course on Saturday, with injuries taking their toll on this all-time great. It is an admiring fact that he made a comeback from injury, which could have eliminated anyone’s course of action on the golf course.
It is as if it is his one last way to demonstrate his legendary competitiveness. However, if this was the last time we see Tiger at a Masters tee box, it might be for the best.
