Javan Johnson, a 6-foot-6 forward out of DePaul who was an undrafted free agent, has agreed to join Golden State on a one-year contract, according to his agent, Daniel Hazan, who spoke to TNT and Bleacher Report NBA insider Chris Haynes late Thursday night.
Javan Johnson played in 33 games for the Blue Demons last season, averaging 14.2 points on 42.6 percent field goal shooting and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc in 36.0 minutes. He also grabbed 4.3 rebounds and dished out 2.4 assists.
At three separate colleges, the 24-year-old played sports. His collegiate career began at Troy until he transferred to Iowa State, where he redshirted his first season. He subsequently went to DePaul in the 2021–22 season, where he participated in just ten games because of a hand injury.
Johnson will most likely play in Santa Cruz with Golden State‘s G League club for the 2023–24 NBA season, but the Warriors saw something in him and were prepared to take a chance.
The Washington Wizards acquired Chris Paul, a seasoned point guard, and the No. 57 selection, which they used to choose Trayce Jackson-Davis, from the Warriors earlier in the day in exchange for Jordan Poole, Ryan Rollins, Patrick Baldwin Jr., and choices. They also selected Brandin Podziemski, a guard from Santa Clara, with the 19th overall pick.
