Jets’ All-Pro DT Reportedly, Quinnen Williams Settles On A $96M Contract
According to NFL Network, All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and the New York Jets have reached an agreement on a four-year, $96 million contract.
The deal’s guarantees total $66 million. After Aaron Donald, he is now the NFL’s second-best defensive lineman.
Williams, at the time 25 years old, recorded 12 sacks, 28 quarterback hits, 55 tackles (12 for loss), 4 pass defences, 2 forced fumbles, and his first All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections in 2022.
The 2019 third overall pick Williams has been a mainstay of a Jets defence that has improved steadily over the course of his four seasons in the league. The Jets’ defence was fourth in the NFL in both yards and points allowed last season.
Despite a 7-10 record in 2018, the Jets are optimistic about 2023 thanks to the team’s improved defence and an offence led by new quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Quinnen Williams – The Shinning Star
In the National Football League (NFL), Quinnen Williams, who was born on December 5, 1997, plays defensive tackle for the New York Jets.
He attended Alabama for collegiate football and was selected third overall by the Jets in this year’s NFL Draft. His older brother, linebacker Quincy Williams, also plays for the Jets.
The New York Jets used the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft to select Williams.
Williams signed a four-year, $32.5 million contract with the Jets on July 25, 2019, which included a $21.6 million signing bonus and a fifth year option. Williams was fined $21,056 on August 26, 2019, after he made a late hit on Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Schaub in the second preseason game.
2019
On September 8, 2019 against the Buffalo Bills, Williams played in his first regular season game. He did not record any statistics and left the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury.
Williams made his first career sack in Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins, bringing down Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The Dolphins ultimately won the game 26-18. Williams recovered a fumble that was lost by Golden Tate on the final play of Week 10’s game against the New York Giants, helping the Jets to a 34-27 victory.
Williams made his final tackle of the season in the Jets’ 16-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16. This was his second sack of the season. Williams appeared in 13 games as a rookie and recorded 28 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery.
2020
Williams had his first two sacks of the season in Week 2’s 31-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Williams was penalised $25,000 on October 10 for two personal fouls in Week 4’s game against the Denver Broncos.
During the Jets’ 20-3 Week 12 loss to the Miami Dolphins, Williams recorded 1.5 sacks on quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and forced a fumble on running back Matt Breida, which was recovered by the team.
Williams was placed on injured reserve on December 23, 2020, and will therefore miss the final two games of the 2020 season. For the 2020season, he has one All-Pro vote.
2021
Williams had a minor foot fracture, it was reported on May 4, 2021. Three days later, he went in for surgery.[23]
On October 4, both Quinnen and his brother Quincy, who had recently signed with the Jets, made NFL history by collecting a sack in a victory over the Tennessee Titans.
2022
On April 26, 2022, the Jets exercised the fifth-year option in Williams’ contract. Williams was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after he recorded five tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a blocked field goal in a 27-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers in Week 6.
