Marc Lasry, the co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, has reportedly agreed to sell his 25 percent shares in the NBA team to Jimmy Haslam and Haslam Sports Group for a valuation of $3.5 billion.
Haslam is the owner of the Cleveland Browns, an NFL team, and also owns a number of other businesses through his company, Pilot Flying J.
Marc Lasry has co-owned the Wiconsin-based Milwaukee Bucks since 2014, when he and Wes Edens purchased the team for $550 million.
Lasry is also a billionaire hedge fund manager and the co-founder of Avenue Capital Group.
According to the Athletics, the NBA board of governors has approved the sale of Lasry’s stake in the Bucks to Haslam and Haslam Sports Group.
This is a necessary step in any ownership change for an NBA team, as the league must ensure that new owners meet its ownership standards and criteria.
With the completion of the sale, Jimmy Haslam will become a co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks along with Wes Edens, who will retain his ownership stake in the team.
Edens is a co-founder of Fortress Investment Group, a private equity firm, and has been an owner of the Bucks since 2014, when he and Lasry purchased the team together.
