Last Saturday, the mishap happened during a demanding training session. Athlete Justyn Vicky, who is recognized and respected, used a hefty barbell weighing more than 200 kilograms. A coworker was attempting to prevent any accidents next to him.
Sadly, things did not turn out as we had hoped. Justyn could not support the weight as he strained to grasp the bar to start his performance, and his legs gave out, causing him to fall fatally.
The athlete’s neck and head sustained significant injuries as the enormous weight dropped onto his shoulders.
According to reports from Bali Discovery, Vicky’s head was slammed by the barbell with such power that it toppled him forward and fractured his neck, compromising the critical nerves that control his heart and breathing.
Doctors rushed him to the hospital and tried all in their power to save his life, but he tragically died due to his injuries since they were so severe.
Kang Gede, a close friend of Justyn Vicky, expressed his sorrow to Bali Express after the tragedy:
“Vicky was a formidable, respectful and sociable person […] He shared what he knew about bodybuilding and gave advice to his friends, as well as asking them to take care of themselves without trying to exceed their limits. Only you know your own capabilities, he said. I hope Vicky rests in peace, close to God, and finds a well-deserved place there.”
