Kenny Pickett Blasts Rumors, Refuses To Be Backup Quarterback
Kenny Pickett, the backup quarterback for the Steelers, is not pleased with rumors that he declined to play against the Seahawks on Sunday.
After being dropped to the No. 2 quarterback spot behind Mason Rudolph, Pickett claims he wasn’t ready to play on Sunday because he wasn’t given the all-clear to recover from ankle surgery. He has been allowed to play this week and says he’s prepared to fill in for Rudolph in a pivotal game against the Ravens, no matter what it takes.
Pickett told reporters in the Steelers‘ locker room today,
“I felt that some reports were disparaging my character and my personal qualities.” “This week, there was no discussion of my serving as a backup quarterback. I intended to begin playing if my health permitted it and if the trainers and coaches thought my appearance warranted it.”
“I wasn’t going to get dressed and suit up for the game if they thought I wasn’t, which is exactly what they thought. That’s kind of weird what people would write or put out there to attempt to show their point or support their position, careers, or what you guys do. So, whoever reported that—I don’t know where that originated? That lacks any foundation or evidence, which disappoints me. As a result, I’m the 2 this week and will be prepared for Baltimore, as they say it feels okay for me to dress and wear the 2 four weeks after the operation. I think I covered everything there, so if there are any more questions, we’ll go on to Baltimore. Thanks for your questions.”
There are serious doubts regarding Pickett’s future in Pittsburgh as a result of the Steelers’ choice to remain with Rudolph, which undoubtedly disappoints Kenny Pickett. He claims he’s prepared to accept that he’s Rudolph’s backup and be ready to play right now after learning that.
