While incarcerated at the United States Penitentiary Coleman in Florida, Larry Nassar, the infamous former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State doctor found guilty of sexually assaulting countless young female gymnasts, reportedly suffered a stabbing.
According to the Associated Press, Nassar was stabbed in the back and chest during a confrontation with a fellow prisoner on Sunday. Currently, it is unknown what precipitated the argument. There are reports that Nassar is in “stable” health.
After admitting guilt to sexually assaulting minor girls while working as the team doctor for USA Gymnastics and the Michigan State gymnastics team, Nassar, 59, has been in jail since 2017.
Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney, Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, and Madison Kocian, all Olympic gold medalists, are among the more than 250 women who have come forward to accuse Nassar of sexually assaulting them.
Over four days in Judge Rosemarie Aquilina’s courtroom during Nassar’s sentence, 150 women spoke in support of their victims. They spoke of how Nassar befriended them and gained their confidence by using his position of authority. However, he abused their trust to his advantage while pretending to treat them medically. He received a 40–175 year jail term from Judge Aquilina.
For having 37,000 photographs of child pornography and making an attempt to delete them, Larry Nassar was also given a 60-year federal prison sentence. Additionally, he was found guilty of sexual abuse in Michigan and given a 40–125 year jail term.
Although Nassar’s prison terms for sexual assault will be completed concurrently, he won’t begin serving any of them until he has finished serving a 60-year federal sentence for child pornography.
The earliest he might be released from prison would be at age 104, 27 years above the average male lifespan in the United States.
