The fractured metatarsal that caused Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez’s season to end early has been successfully treated through surgery.

When the 25-year-old Argentina center defender was taken out on a stretcher during Thursday’s Europa League match with Sevilla, it was clear he would not return to the campaign.

After having surgery on his right foot, Martinez shared a photo of himself on Instagram with the caption, “Everything went well, thanks to God!”

“Many thanks for all of your messages. Now focusing on the recovery.”

Raphael Varane also suffered an injury against Sevilla and is anticipated to be sidelined for a few weeks, meaning United will be without either of their first-choice center-backs until Martinez fully recovers in time for the start of the upcoming season.
