Mickey Moniak Top Player to Target on Waiver Wire This Weekend in Fantasy Baseball

Why Mickey Moniak is no important a star player. His game, his style and his achievements. He is not a small achiever.

This weekend, baseball fans will be treated to some truly thrilling contests. In a showdown for American League supremacy, the Rays will take on the Orioles.

The Dodgers will be playing the Rangers on the road in a thrilling interleague series. From a fantasy baseball point of view, there is no shortage of hitting and pitching options for streaming.

I’ll begin with a summary of the top choices before delving into the weekend’s events in further detail.

Best players to grab from the free agent pool

Edouard Julien (second baseman, Minnesota Twins; 13 percent rostered)
This month, Julien has hit better than any other batter in baseball (1.677 OPS), and he routinely bats in the first three slots.

Later in the piece, I mention the rookie as a player who has a good chance to go deep on Friday, but his worth goes beyond that one contest.

All weekend long, the White Sox will start right-handed pitchers, which is great news for Julien, who has a career 1.053 OPS when facing righties.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mickey Moniak (41%)

Moniak has had a career year against righties, posting an OPS of 1.092, and will play weak righties in each of his next six games. Until Mike Trout returns at some point in August, the 25-year-old should be on most media league rosters.

And if Moniak keeps up his stellar performance, he may be able to secure a starting job for the rest of the season.

Center fielder Yainer Daz (24%, Houston Astros)

After a hot start to the season (Daz has eight homers and 18 RBI since June 1), he should be on the rosters of many more leagues.

His success versus righties this season (.866 OPS) bodes well for his weekend matchup against a pair of right-handed pitchers for an Athletics team that has a 6.00 team ERA.

Outfielder Jess Sánchez (4%, Miami Marlins)

Since Sánchez sees almost exclusively right-handed pitchers at the plate, his chances of success this weekend against three Colorado right-handed starters with ERAs over 6.00 are high.

SP for the San Diego Padres Seth Lugo (33%)

If you’re looking for a starting pitcher to stream this weekend, I recommend Lugo.

The Tigers’ offense ranks 29th in OPS against right-handed pitchers, therefore the right-hander has decent odds of posting low ratios and winning.

Lugo has a 3.29 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 26:2 K:BB since coming off the IL on June 20.

Targeting Matchups in the Reds against. D-backs

On Friday and Saturday, Cincinnati’s players will have a much lower value because they’ll be facing left-handed starters.

This season, left-handed pitchers have been no match for Matt McLain (79%) and Nick Senzel (3%), but Jake Fraley is out of the lineup and Joey Votto is less tempting.

Rockies vs. Marlins

The Miami offense won’t benefit from playing in Coors Field, but they should still do well against a Colorado staff that has a road ERA of 5.09.

Expect more production from Jess Sánchez (4%) and Joey Wendle (3%), as all three of Colorado’s starting pitchers throw from the right side.

Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics Although the A’s have been pitching better as of late, they are still fair game for offensive-minded fantasy managers.

It’s likely that the A’s won’t be able to contain the Houston attack, which has been performing above-averagely this month without Yordan lvarez and José Altuve.

Yaíner Diaz (24%) is a terrific option for those who stream catchers, while Chas McCormick (38%) and Corey Julks (15%) can provide outfield assistance.

Angels versus buccaneers

Three weak right-handed starts for the Pirates mean an early and often scoring start for Los Angeles.

This weekend, Mickey Moniak (41% ownership) should be in every lineup, while Mike Moustakas (2%) should be considered in deeper leagues.

The White Sox and the Twins have a bad matchup. Three excellent right-handed pitchers in Joe Ryan, Sonny Gray, and Bailey Ober will make life difficult for the White Sox. There aren’t any Chicago Cubs batters, outside of Luis Robert Jr., that I’d be interested in putting in my lineup.

Looking for Thieves

In these competitions, fast players should be targeted by those hoping to steal a few bases this week.

While the Giants would prefer to have Thairo Estrada in the lineup, they will have to settle for the services of Luis Matos against the Nationals.

Three Washington starters have a WHIP greater than 1.45, increasing the likelihood that the youngster will get on base frequently.

As the league leader in stolen bases allowed by catchers, Keibert Ruiz will be an easy target for Matos once he reaches second.

Dodgers against. Leody Taveras and Travis Jankowski: Both of the Dodgers’ catchers are in the top eight in the league when it comes to allowing opposing runners to steal.

Taveras and Jankowski, the Rangers’ top two base stealing threats right now, are worth targeting in roto leagues because this pattern is unlikely to change this weekend when they send three right-handed starters to the mound.

Massive Bangers

Hope to add to your tally of home runs this week? Think about using one of these streaming players.

On Friday, Edouard Julien will take on Lance Lynn. Julien, who bats left-handed, has hit nine home runs against right-handed pitchers in his 128 at-bats this season.

Because Lynn allows the most home runs in the majors, the youngster may be able to add to his total when they face off.

Saturday’s matchup features Teoscar Hernández and Yusei Kikuchi. Overall, Hernandez’s performance versus right-handed pitchers (.665 OPS) has been the primary reason for his dismal fantasy performance.

However, the right-handed slugger’s success against southpaws persists, as evidenced by his six home runs in 84 at-bats against them. He may be able to go deep against Kikuchi, who is fifth among pitchers in home runs allowed.
