Elena Delle Donne, a seasoned player with the Washington Mystics who battled in Sunday’s 80-74 loss to the Connecticut Sun, had a message for WNBA authorities. According to Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post, she received an unknown fine for the remarks.
The two-time league MVP simply stated, “I’m going to say it.” “I’m so tired of getting calls that treat me like a novice.
If I’m fined, so be it. I’ve had too many back operations to do anything. I just keep going after it, thinking something would change. There isn’t much you can do in those circumstances, but hopefully things will change in the next game.
In the defeat, Delle Donne recorded a final line of 19 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks. Additionally, the two-time MVP received five personal fouls, which put him in foul trouble when the game was on the line with less than a minute left.
For the Mystics on Sunday, Shakira Austin, who is just in her second WNBA season, scored a career-high 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. She shook her head in agreement after being assessed four personal fouls as Delle Donne criticized the officials.
Alyssa Thomas and Brionna Jones, two prominent Sun players, each accrued five fouls. Although Delle Done believes that authorities overlooked infractions that were committed against her, she won’t let it affect how she plays.
“I just keep attacking, hoping that in the end you can show my arm getting hit because I can jump over people. I just keep attacking in the hopes that something will shift. There isn’t much you can do in those circumstances, but hopefully it will change in the following game. Just remember to attack everything you see when you see it. And praise be to Shakira [Austin], who stepped up and took control”.
The six-time All-Star is averaging 19.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game through three games. She averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 rebounds in the previous season. When she helped the franchise win a title, it was her first full year since beginning to experience a series of back ailments in 2019.
She released a Nike signature shoe in October 2022 that was motivated by her ten-year struggle with Lyme disease.
When the Mystics and Sun faced off again on Tuesday, she led Washington with 27 points. Her performance was insufficient to win the Mystics the rematch, which they lost 88-81 to the Sun.
When the Mystics travel to the Chicago Sky on Friday, Delle Donne and the team will be going for a victory.
