Draymond Green, a forward for the Golden State Warriors, has been suspended for Game 3 of the team’s playoff series against the Sacramento Kings due to his history as a “repeat offender.”

According to NBA Executive VP Joe Dumars, Green’s actions during Game 2, which included stepping on Kings forward Domantas Sabonis and interacting with game officials after the call, were deemed excessive, over-the-top, and conduct detrimental.

Sabonis was issued a technical foul during the incident and later diagnosed with a sternum contusion.

Although Sabonis’ injury played a part in the NBA’s decision, Dumars emphasized that Green’s status as a repeat offender was the most significant factor in the suspension.

Green and Controversies

Green’s reputation as a “dirty player” has followed him throughout his NBA career. He has been suspended four times, ejected 17 times, and amassed 163 technical fouls and $1.4 million in fines since 2013, according to Spotrac.

The most notable incident occurred during the 2016 NBA Finals when Green was suspended for Game 5 after hitting then-Cavaliers forward LeBron James in the groin.

The Cavaliers went on to win the series, and Green’s absence was viewed as a contributing factor.

Despite his reputation, Green has denied intentionally playing dirty and stated that he does not like being labelled as such.

However, in Game 2 of the Warriors’ playoff series against the Sacramento Kings in 2023, Green was once again at the center of controversy when he stomped on Kings forward Domantas Sabonis following a missed shot and rebound.

Green claimed that his leg was held by Sabonis and he was only trying to step forward without injuring himself. Sabonis was issued a technical foul and later diagnosed with a sternum contusion.

Green was ejected from the game, and the NBA ultimately suspended him for Game 3 due to his history as a “repeat offender” and the severity of his actions.
