NBA Draft Lottery: Winners and Losers from 2024 Season
The 2024 NBA draft lottery has revealed the order of this season’s draft. Sunday’s lottery revealed that Atlanta Hawks will get the first pick followed by Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs in the top four, respectively.
The development would help NBA experts to comment on who fits where. This will also allow talent hunters to plan for the upcoming draft.
As full results are out, we can easily name the winners and losers of the 2024 draft lottery. Let’s discuss them in detail:
Winners
ATLANTA HAWKS
Atlanta Hawks are the biggest winners of the 2024 NBA lottery as they get the first pick defying all the odds. This allows them ample options and flexibility. They can either use the pick or trade it(or the player they draft) to build around their existing stars Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, or they can trade the pick (or the player they draft) for a significant upgrade to their roster.

SAN ANTONIO SPURS
Many considered Spurs even before the lottery was announced. That’s because they had roped in the generational talent Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in 2023. However, their luck continued as they moved up one spot in the lottery this year. Despite being a small jump, Spurs have the golden chance to pick a player of their choice to brighten their future prospects.

HOUSTON ROCKET
Houston Rockets were so close to making it to the playoffs this season on the back of their strong combination of young blood and veterans. With the third pick in the lottery, they get a brilliant opportunity to strengthen their squad and boost their chances for the playoffs next year.
Losers
DETRIOT PISTONS
Despite having the worst record in the league and the best odds to land the number one pick, the Pistons fell to the fifth spot. This continues a string of bad draft luck for them, with their recent high picks yet to become surefire stars.
Hornets Hire Celtics Assistant Charles Lee As Head Coach
CHARLOTTE HORNETS
The Hornets have a promising young core with LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. Landing a top-three pick would have been a major boost to their development. However, their drop to the sixth pick means they’ll have to settle for a slightly less impactful rookie.
TORONTO RAPTORS
The Raptors made a lot of hasty trades anticipating a high draft pick. This led them to a poor season as they finished in the bottom four. On the contrary, they dropped to eighth in the lottery. The development means their protected first-round pick now belongs to the San Antonio Spurs. Painful, isn’t it?
