NBA Player Ja Morant Benched Eight Games Following Shooting Incident
Ja Morant, a player for the Memphis Grizzlies, was caught on camera with a revolver in a nightclub in Colorado. As a result, the NBA suspended him for eight games without pay.
The NBA claimed that the 23-year-old All-Star’s behavior was “detrimental to the league” since he was inebriated. After the 4 March live Instagram broadcast, Morant issued an apology. He said he despised all forms of violence but accepted full accountability for his acts as he made a terrible error.
As the NBA’s investigation into the event is backdated, Morant can now play against the Dallas Mavericks on March 21 after missing five games. Upon meeting with Morant in New York on Wednesday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver described his actions as “irresponsible, reckless, and potentially extremely dangerous.”
Silver also said that Ja has made it plain to him that he has learned from this experience and is aware that his duties to the Memphis Grizzlies and the NBA go far beyond his performance on the floor. The incident happened shortly after the Grizzlies’ 113-97 loss to the Denver Nuggets. Since then, while the NBA looked into the matter, Morant has yet to play.
Carrying a pistol is lawful in Colorado, with a few restrictions, such as possession while intoxicated. The Glendale Police Department did not discover enough proof to bring any criminal charges.
However, it was determined during the investigation that Morant didn’t have the weapon with him when the team was going within any NBA facilities. The Colorado authorities also did not discover enough evidence to indict Morant.
