NBA Twitter has reacted differently to rumours of a potential ASG move that first aired on NBC Sports Chicago.
The NBA All-Star Game’s format can alter in the future.
Shams Charania and Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic reported on Friday, citing sources, that the NBA is thinking about replacing the player draught with a return to an Eastern against Western Conference All-Star Game structure.
The league and NBPA “agreed in recent months to have talks about increased competitiveness in the All-Star Game as part of a new collective bargaining agreement,” according to the source, and adjustments may take effect for the Indianapolis All-Star Game next season.
Up until 2017, the All-Star Game had an East-West format. The game first took place in 1951.
The player draught was first used at the 2018 All-Star Game, when the top fan vote-getter from each conference selected their own squad from among the available All-Stars. Initially held weeks in advance, the draught was held the same night as the All-Star Game this year.
Fans’ reactions to a probable return to the conventional East-West format were conflicting. Some others experienced excitement and nostalgic sensations.
Even the idea of using the game to determine the Finals’ home-court advantage (much like MLB did in the past) was floated.
Others, though, are dubious about whether the potential change will make the game better.
