An independent medical panel has concluded that Diego Maradona, an iconic figure in Argentine football, got “deficient and reckless” care in the days leading up to his death.

After Maradona’s death in November of last year, Argentine prosecutors requested an investigation into the footballer’s medical team.

Maradona, who was 60 years old, passed away of a heart attack at his residence in Buenos Aires.

He had surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain in early November and was scheduled to undergo alcohol rehab.

Maradona, one of the best footballers of all time, struggled with cocaine and alcohol abuse in his personal life.

Death of Argentine Icon At 60

The death of Maradona, who led Argentina to World Cup victory as captain in 1986, shocked the soccer community and prompted inquiries regarding his health care.

The medical staff including the doctors and nurses who cared for him in Argentina were investigated by authorities shortly after his death.

Twenty medical specialists were called in by prosecutors in March to investigate the circumstances surrounding Maradona’s death and determine whether or not carelessness had a role.

On Friday, Argentine media outlets revealed the panel’s findings.

According to the panel’s findings, which were detailed in a 70-page study, Maradona’s critical illness began around 12 hours before his death. The study stated that he was “not properly monitored” during this time.

According to the article, the panel blamed Maradona’s medical staff for leaving his survival “to fate,” as reported by the Argentine publication Clarn.

Medical professionals were quoted in the news article as saying that Maradona might have had a greater chance of surviving if he had been sent to a hospital rather than a private residence.

The panel said that Maradona’s medical team’s response was “inadequate, deficient, and reckless,” as reported by the media across globe now.

Prosecutors are looking into a number of Maradona’s medical professionals, including his 39-year-old personal physician Leopoldo Luque and his psychiatrist.

Now that the medical panel’s report is out in the open, prosecutors can decide whether or not to press charges. Manslaughter is a possible charge, as stated by Clarn.

The home and office of Maradona’s doctor were searched by police.
Two of Maradona’s daughters filed a complaint that set off the legal process. After their father had brain surgery, they were concerned about how he was being cared for.

Dr. Luque is still free of any charges. He insists he did nothing wrong. Dr. Luque broke down in tears during a news appearance in November, explaining that he had tried all possible to preserve his friend’s life.

The physician snapped at the press at one point, “You want to know what I am accountable for? “For loving him, for caring for him, for extending his life, for bettering it to the end.”

The physician claimed he had attempted “the impossible and everything else besides.”

Charges Against Medical Staff

A total number of eight medical staff are charged with the, “simple homicide with wanton disregard” regarding the death of soccer great Diego Maradona after allegedly neglecting his treatment.

The names of these are; Neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, the nursing coordinator Mariano Perroni, also the nurses Ricardo Omar Almiron and Gisella Madrid, a psychologist Carlos Diaz, a medical coordinator Nancy Forlini and a clinical doctor Pedro Di Spagna are expected to face accusations.

The geart soccer player Maradona passed away during his sleep in November 2020 owing to acute pulmonary edema, an accumulation of fluid in his lungs, owing to congestive heart failure.

He had been in the hospital recuperating after a brain surgery that took place earlier in November.
A medical study produced following Maradona’s death indicated healthcare professionals performed in an “inappropriate, deficient and reckless manner” in the soccer legend’s care.

According to the investigation, the personnel in charge of his treatment missed warning indications, resulting to his presenting “unequivocal signs of a prolonged agony period.”
“All the sons of b—hes waiting for my dad’s autopsy to disclose narcotics, marijuana and booze. I am not a doctor yet I observed him quite bloated. A robotic voice. It wasn’t his voice…” Maradona’s daughter, Gianinna, commented on Twitter after his passing.

The loved one, the Maradona, who won the 1986 FIFA World Cup with Argentina while receiving the tournament’s best player award, was 60 years old.
