Although RB Dalvin Cook, a former running back for the Minnesota Vikings, didn’t explicitly state his plans on Thursday, the waiting game over his future location continues.
During a Thursday Sirius XM NFL Radio broadcast, Cook described the Miami Dolphins as a “perfect fit” for him.
“As a running back, you look for a certain scheme, and I know the one I’m good in.” That’s the outside zone, and that’s what the Miami Dolphins run.”
Dalvin Cook
It is easy to comprehend why Cook considers the Dolphins his ideal landing location, given his childhood origins in Miami and the allure of head coach Mike McDaniel‘s inventive, run-first offense.
But the actual query is what Miami perceives in RB Dalvin Cook.
Cook has had four straight seasons with at least 1,000 yards running, but given that he has only ever played in more than 14 games once in his six-year career, there are legitimate questions about his durability. The running back’s life cycle is getting shorter, so Cook’s age-28 season may raise concerns about how much gas he still has in the tank.
The Dolphins have the funds to sign Cook because, according to Spotrac.com, they have a projected $13 million in salary cap room. However, the Dolphins might not be as interested in Cook as he is in them after selecting Devon Achane in the third round in April and re-signing McDaniel favorites Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. to two-year contracts.
