Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Romeo Doubs seems positive about the team’s decision to replace Aaron Rodgers with Jordan Love at quarterback. On Friday, the second-year wideout told Spectrum News1’s Dennis Krause that he didn’t “really see what’s the big difference” between having Love or Rodgers as quarterback in 2022.

I believe Jordan is capable of it,” Doubs remarked. I believe Jordan to be an excellent quarterback. In comparison to Aaron Rodgers, I think Jordan can do just as good a job as a quarterback, if not better.

These are some very strong words from Doubs for a player like Love, who is replacing a four-time Super Bowl MVP in Rodgers. In his 15 years as a starter, Rodgers has won a Super Bowl, four NFL MVP titles, made 10 Pro Bowls, thrown for approximately 60,000 yards, scored 475 touchdowns, and completed 65.3% of his passes.

That’s a high standard for any quarterback to reach, much less one who has completed just 60.3% of his throws for just 83 attempts for 606 yards, 3.0 TDs, and 3.0 INTs in 10 games. The Packers moved up in the 2020 Draught to choose Love, and he may have learned a thing or two from watching Aaron Rodgers for the previous three years.

Since Aaron Rodgers’s divorce from the Green Bay Packers ended with him becoming the starting quarterback for the New York Jets, he is now the clear frontrunner for the position.

Only two of Love’s 21 throws to Doubs went for a total of nine yards that year. In his first season with the organisation, Doubs ended with 42 receptions, 425 yards, and three touchdowns through 13 games played.

Since Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb followed Rodgers to New York and tight end Robert Tonyan joined the Chicago Bears, Doubs will now be one of, if not Love’s main receiving target. Green Bay has only two other returning receivers in 2022 seventh-round pick Samori Toure and second-round pick Christian Watson.

This effectively makes Doubs a co-de facto leader of the attack.

It would be dishonest of me to declare that I don’t want to be [a leader in 2023]. As Doubs put it, “I know from the outside looking in that everyone expects me to be that leader. I’m still honing my skills as a wideout. Verifying the quality of my grip, my release, and my routes. For the sake of the guys who look up to us, let’s make sure we maintain that level of excellence.

After successfully transitioning from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers in 2008, the Packers are hoping to repeat the process with Love. Green Bay benefited greatly from that move, but similar outcomes are extremely uncommon. The person who doubts thinks so.
