Shaquille O’Neal Jersey Gets Retired By Orlando Magic In Historic Event

Even O’Neal, who left the team more than twenty years ago, was surprised to learn that he would be retiring his jersey.
As he considered how significant the occasion was, O’Neal said, “I never thought this day was going to occur.”
The choice to have his jersey retired in the midst of the Magic’s 35th anniversary season highlights the lasting influence of his time on the franchise.
Being the first player to be selected to an All-Star team, win Rookie of the Year, and be named to the All-NBA team while wearing a Magic uniform, O’Neal’s career with the Magic was characterized by many achievements and milestones.

Nick Anderson, Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, Dennis Scott, Jeff Turner, and other former players were among the well-known people and treasured memories surrounding O’Neal as he watched his jersey soar into the rafters. Pat Williams, the co-founder of Magic, was also present, as was former general manager John Gabriel.
With appreciation for the Magic devotees, O’Neal said,
“There’s this proverb that goes, never forget your origins.”
“This was also where my professional career began. Almost my whole life, I have resided here. The supporter base has been warm. The people are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I will always cherish the memories I have of Orlando.”
O’Neal’s legendary career, which has earned him numerous honors like entry into the Magic Hall of Fame, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and inclusion on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team, gains another chapter with his retirement from the jersey in Orlando.
