Since moving to Dallas in February as part of a deal with the Nets, the Mavericks star has declined to discuss his future. Still, Kyrie Irving refuses to discuss his future plans.
On Instagram Live on Wednesday, Irving claimed that he isn’t yet prepared to discuss his upcoming free-agency decision.
That was his position when he first arrived in Dallas in February, and he is continuing to hold it even now, early in April, after the Mavericks’ game season came to an end, finally.
Irving does not, however, object to discussing free agency. Regarding it, he also asks his followers to be silent.
According to The Dallas Morning News, Irving stated, “Stop mentioning me on Twitter.” Please cease mentioning me right away, all of you fan bases. Thank you. Would you just leave me alone with this? I simply want to be with my family in peace, please. People are talking about my free agency plans at the dinner table, y’all. Cut that out. You think it’s funny s***, but stop it already.

After a contentious stint with the Brooklyn Nets, where he missed a significant number of games due to the COVID-19 vaccination controversy and was punished for sharing an anti-Semitic video online, Irving was moved to the Mavericks.
After Irving landed in Dallas, the Mavericks experienced difficulties. The Mavericks, who were previously in fourth place in the Western Conference standings, missed the playoffs entirely as a result of minor injuries to star Luka Doni and Irving.
In the summer’s free agency, Irving is eligible for a four-year, $220.6 million contract. He is qualified for a deal for up to $272 million over five years if he signs with the Mavericks. In spite of the difficulties, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban declared in April that retaining Irving this offseason was the team’s primary goal.
But Irving has long shied away from discussing his plans. When he asked supporters and others to cease bringing it up in February, he stated that doing so would cause “unwarranted distractions on us and our team.”
Though talks for free agents don’t begin until June 30, speculations have recently returned as a result of Irving watching two Los Angeles Lakers playoff games from courtside. That naturally raised the possibility of a reunion between Irving and LeBron James, who shared a championship in Cleveland.
But for the upcoming month or so, supporters “got to chill.”
Irving told The Dallas Morning News, “I am a free agent this summer, but I am in no rush to make a choice”.
“Can y’all please, politely I ask, please stop paying attention to the TV personalities, the sports folk that try to combine sports with politics, lifestyle, and s*** like that — when they speak on my name and they’re talking about prospective teams that I’m going to?
I’m not in a hurry to decide. I am aware of what is in store for the remainder of my professional life.
