The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Chicago White Sox 8-4 on Sunday thanks to Cedric Mullins, who scored three runs and four RBIs, including a tiebreaking single in a three-run eighth inning for Baltimore.

As Baltimore assembled to win the last game of the weekend series, Gunnar Henderson had two hits, and three runs scored. With a 12-hit assault, the Orioles overcame Grayson Rodriguez’s rocky start.

First-inning runs accounted for all four of Chicago’s runs. In addition to Jake Burger’s solo shot, Gavin Sheets blasted a three-run home run.

On a chilly, mushy afternoon, the White Sox’s pitching failed again, as they suffered their fourth defeat in five games. The team received five of its seven walks from Dylan Cease, bringing the series total to 26.

In relief of Rodriguez, Mike Baumann (2-0), Austin Voth, and Félix Bautista pitched four innings of one-hit ball.

In his third major league start, the rookie right-hander gave up six hits while striking out eight and walking two.

The Baltimore retaliation started in the fourth. Terrin Vavra reached after Mateo’s sacrifice fly due to Burger’s mistake at third base.

Mullins’ two-run triple to the left later brought the score to 4-3.

“I was drawing a lot of walks in a short time span, which means the eye was working.” “It was just a matter of the bat trying to catch up. Today, I was able to do so.”

Cease’s wild pitch in the sixth inning allowed Henderson to score, matching the score. Cease left the field with the bases loaded after retiring Ryan Mountcastle on a foul fly to first.

After a protracted rain delay, Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde was overwhelmed with how his team “chipped away” at Cease in low conditions.

“Not easy to do.” “The guy finished second in the (American League) Cy Young vote. It was a 4-0 game. “It was 30 degrees outside; it felt like…”

For Chicago, Kenyan Middleton recorded three outs before left-hander Aaron Bummer (0-1) gave up three runs in the eighth on two singles and two walks.

Mateo was brought home by Mullins’ single to center. With another RBI single, Anthony Santander brought Baltimore’s strong eighth to a close.

Mild Start

“Cease would probably tell you he wasn’t the sharpest, on Sunday; but he was good.”

From 6-10, Chicago fell. It has yet to claim a series victory this year.

“I just think we got to minimize baserunners,” “They had a lot of traffic the last three games, but we also had leads in three games. So I’m not going to sit here and say we’re close.”
