Tiger Woods’s Tech-Infused Golf League Receives Investment From The Williams Sisters

What is the prize for the BMW Championship payout?

The BMW Championship, played on Sunday, August 20, at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois, is the golf world's current attention.

The Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) of Venus and Serena Williams will be the first franchise of the TGL (Tech-Infused Golf League), a high-tech stadium golf tournament started by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. It was revealed amid a hectic week of golf news. The competition is scheduled to begin in January 2024.

The Williams sisters and Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, a co-founder of Reddit, will be part of LAGC’s ownership group. Ohanian has experience with sports ownership as the main shareholder of Angel City FC, a team in the National Women’s Soccer League.

In TGL, a collaboration between the league and the PGA Tour, LAGC will be one of the six franchises competing.

Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., their five-year-old daughter, will also be a co-owner of LAGC, Ohanian said in an enthusiastic tweet. Olympia is now the youngest owner of two sports organizations and is already a member of the ownership group for Angel City FC.

They used PGA Golf and LIV Golf as examples

Another element of excitement is the recent reunion between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-supported breakaway LIV Golf. Current legal conflicts will be resolved by merging the two competing tours with the DP World Tour under a brand-new, yet-to-be-named for-profit organization.

Then, what is TGL? Six teams of three PGA Tour players will compete in a specially constructed Palm Beach, Florida, stadium in this ground-breaking idea that will be introduced in August 2022. Monday nights are set as primetime TV times for the tournament, which has a 15-game seasonal structure and concludes with semifinals and a championship game.

The high-tech approach of TGL is what makes it special. Before moving to an advanced short game complex in the middle of the stadium, players begin by shooting on a simulated screen. In two hours, this shortened format provides an action-packed experience to draw a younger audience and make golf more appealing.

The twelve PGA Tour players slated to compete in TGL include notable golfers like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, and Collin Morikawa.
