Memphis University School two-sport star Dion Stutts, who had a scholarship offer to play collegiate football at the University of Arkansas, has passed away. His age was specified as 18.

Football coach and athletic director at Memphis University School Bobby Alston told the Memphis Commercial Appeal that an all-terrain vehicle accident appears to be the cause of death. What happened on Tuesday night in Batesville, Mississippi, on the farm of the Stutts family.

The family has our deepest sympathies. What a wonderful young man Dion was. Alston told the Commercial Appeal, “He had a smile that warmed your heart when you had a chance to be around him.”

At Memphis University School, where he excelled in both academics and wrestling, Stutts just completed his junior year. Stutts committed to the University of Arkansas in March, becoming a member of the Razorbacks’ incoming class of 2024.

They have an incredible community. The laid-back vibe of a university is perfect for me. Then, of course, there are the fantastic trainers. After committing, Stutts told Rivals.com, “Everyone there was just so kind and made it feel like home, so I committed.”

Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina, and Texas A&M were among the other schools who recruited the defensive lineman Stutts. The Commercial Appeal reports that as a junior, Stutts recorded 30 tackles and 13 tackles for losses.

“We are heartbroken over the passing of Dion Stutts. He was a tremendous young man with a bright future ahead of him. We were as excited to add him to our program as he was to be a Razorback,” the Arkansas football program said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his mother Shante and father Dino along with his entire family as they deal with this loss.”

Stutts’ primary recruiter and future position coach in Fayetteville, Arkansas, was defensive line coach Deke Adams. He shared his sympathy with the Stutts family online.

“Right now, my heart hurts so bad! This young man has such a beautiful heart. The words just won’t come to me! Dion, you will forever be a Razorback in our hearts. Holding his loved ones in prayer. The words came from Adams’ pen.
