800 Miles Await 5 NASCAR Drivers In Monday's Doubleheader At Daytona

Several drivers will attempt to complete the 800 miles of racing at Daytona International Speedway on Monday, while NASCAR has postponed both the Xfinity Series and Cup Series races.

The competitors in both of Monday’s races are Daniel Suarez, AJ Allmendinger, Riley Herbst, John Hunter Nemechek, and Anthony Alfredo.

At 11:00 a.m. ET (FS1), the Xfinity race will take place. At 4 p.m. ET (Fox), the Daytona 500 will take place.

Although Denny Hamlin is still after a Cup victory, it will not define him. Both Suarez and Nemechek drive Cup cars full-time. Suarez will be the driver of SS Green Light Racing’s No. 14 Chevrolet. Nemechek will share the No. 20 Toyota with Aric Almirola while competing for Joe Gibbs Racing this season.

This season, Herbst, Alfredo, and Allmendinger—all full-time Xfinity drivers—will start a few races in the Cup. Allmendinger intends to perform dual roles for Kaulig Racing, NASCAR. Alfredo will represent Our Motorsports in Xfinity and Beard Motorsports in Cup competitions. Herbst will be a driver for Rick Ware Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing in Xfinity.

At Charlotte Motor Speedway, a similar circumstance happened the previous season. Rain caused the Xfinity and Cup races to be rescheduled for Monday, May 29, leaving two drivers with the daunting task of finishing 900 miles of racing.

This was not reached by any driver. Ty Gibbs placed fifth in the Xfinity race but finished two laps behind in the Cup race, placing him in 26th place. In the Cup race, Justin Haley placed 15th and led the final lap. In the Xfinity race, he came in one lap down and in 12th place.
